Born in Chester, England, Dad came to know Jesus Christ as his Saviour at an early age. His ministry took him all over the U.K. From early days as a teenager going to the army camps with his Father, an army chaplain, then for the next 26 yrs. with the English Church Army. Whenever and wherever he would go, Dad never missed the opportunity to share Jesus Christ with others. Church missions, beach missions, prisons, the dock yards, the race tracks, 'open air' meetings and so on. Dad, alone or with a team, went to where the people were. Crowds would gather and Dad would share Jesus! Jesus was Dad’s passion and the 'fire in his bones'.
Moving our family to Canada in 1973, Dad's ministry continued, this time across Canada. Shortly after, down to the southern U.S., then back up to Canada. For the last 20 years or so, ageing well into his 80's, Dad had a fruitful ministry as chaplain at Cedarvale Lodge and Bradford Valley Care Community.
Dad was a friend to all and he related to all. Rich, poor, young, old, high ranking, low ranking, the lonely, the brokenhearted, the alcoholic, the one who felt unworthy of love, a family suffering with a loved one dying or simply the man he would meet whilst sitting on a bench at the mall while Ina, his wife, popped into a store.
Nothing spectacular about him, never drew attention to himself, just a natural talk about Jesus and a life seeking to point others to Christ. Sure, there were challenges and hardships in life, Dad was not perfect but he knew the healing and restoring power of God’s forgiveness in a life committed to Him.
Dad's ministry was not just outside the home but inside too. His 3 children gave their hearts to the Lord, not through being preached at but watching and listening. He dearly loved and was so proud of, all his grandchildren, their spouses and the sweet addition to the family, his great grandson, Rogan. We shall dearly miss Dad's chats, his wisdom, his matter of fact approach to life, his unwavering support and the knowledge he and Mum prayed for each of us by name, every day.
Dad was absolutely stable in his faith. For him it was, "God said it, I believe it, trust Him". Dad always said, 'specific prayers get specific answers'. What rejoicing there would have been in Heaven the second you closed your eyes here on earth and the next, opened them in the presence of Jesus and you heard, “Well done good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord”. You will be greatly missed Dad but as you often said, "Don't grieve for me, I shall never be more alive." Till we meet again...what a day that will be in the presence of Jesus!
Jesus said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life" -John 3:16
