Obituary of Doreen Pollock

Our beloved mom passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Mom had a kind and humble soul. We all loved her incredible wit. Her intelligence and acute memory were reinforced by her love of current events, Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit. She had a unique ability to connect with all generations and was universally loved. The beauty of her spirit will live in our lives forever.

Predeceased by her husband (Bob), son (Doug) and brothers (Frank, Ralph). Mom will be profoundly missed by her children: Rob (Mary), Denise (Doug), Jim (Lorraine) and Lisa (Tim) and by her grandchildren Matt (Heather), Leah (Chris), Cameron, Brian, Bailey, Carson, Andrea, Gavin and Riley. Mom had the good fortune to be a great granny (Ellie, +1 due in Sept). She is also survived by her sisters (Greta, Donna).

Mom was raised in The Beaches in Toronto.  In 1949, she became a Registered Nurse from the Toronto General Hospital and maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates. Shortly after, her family purchased Riveredge Restaurant in Keswick. Mom met dad and they were married within six months. They had five children and a home filled with activity, love and humour. Even during tough times, mom chose happiness and was our constant source of joy. She was the life of the party and gave us so many great memories that will be cherished throughout the generations.

We would like to thank the many caregivers and agencies for their compassion and for honouring mom’s request to remain at home: Dr. Strelioff, PSWs (Carolina, Jessie, Julie, Karen, Vivienne), Saint Elizabeth Nurses (Madison, Leanne), CCAC (Laura), Physio (Dileesh).

It’s a tribute to mom’s character that she was surrounded by a wealth of supportive family members during her lifetime and especially during these last few months. It was no surprise when she was recently diagnosed as having an enlarged heart – we already knew that.

The family is having a private service. We will host a “Celebration of Life Party” at a later date.

Mom’s quality of life was greatly improved through the services of the CNIB. If desired, please donate.

Arrangements entrusted to the M.W. Becker Funeral Home. Sign an online book of condolences at mwbeckerfuneralhome.com

Age is counted in years. Life is counted in experiences.

Mom was rich in both.
