I am sad to hear of Lyla's passing. I am left with many memories of our time together in Cairo and communications and visits afterward, plus her book. What an amazing woman! Araby will miss her so much. My condolences to her family.

Thrilled beyond words that I was able to reconnect with my Godmother and Namesake a few years ago when she was briefly back in Newmarket before returning to Egypt once again. I am sad and disappointed that we were unable to reconnect live and in person since then, but I will cherish dearly all the cards and e-mails and messages over the past few years. An incredible woman who lived her life to the fullest. Hope that I am doing her name proud. Her fierce and indomitable spirit continues to inspire me. Remembering all my childhood memories of hanging out with her and Carl and Jennifer too. I look forward to hearing everyone's stories and memories of Lyla at her Celebration of Life. BIG BIG HUGS.

we have great memories of Lyla. We met often during the years 1999/2004 when we lived in Cairo and taught at AIS. Lyla showed how to live life to the fullest. She also was straight forward and had a good sense of humor. Upon a return visit to Cairo in 2011 we reconnect with her and once again I was struck by her ability to appreciate each moment that life brings us. Such an inspiring woman, we will always remember her. Our sincere condolances to Diane and her family. Miriam Sutorius and David Lavoie. Ottawa.
