I had just heard of the passing of Ken, my deepest condolences to the family.
I worked for Ken, many years ago, cutting down trees, & working with him when he ran the South Shore Sanitation.
He had some good stories to tell, he was very good friends with my father.
RIP Ken,
Mike Pipher.

I knew Ken as Uncle Sam. I did not even know that his given name was Ken until I was about 35 years old. My father gave him the name Sam when he lived with my father and my mother at the farm in Mount Albert. I will always remember the bantering during his cribbage games with my father not to mention the fishing and hunting stories they both had. I also remember as a youngster making the decision along with Donna (Jennifer's Mother) to paint one of Uncle Sam's neighbor's houses. I was in Uncle Sam's care at the time and this paint job did not go over very well with the neighbors. I believe Donna and I painted it red and it was a partial job. Certainly not the work of professional painters. Anyway we got through it and everyone lived to see another day. I shared many good laughs with my Uncle as he had a great sense of humor. He liked teasing his sisters. I specifically remember him doing this with my Mom and Aunt Dorothy. Sometimes tempers would get hot and other times they all just burst out laughing. Uncle Sam also really liked Big Macs and so from time to time I would drop off a Big Mac Combo to his home. He would come and clean the chimney for me when I asked him to and I always appreciated that. I would take movies to his home and we would watch them together. There were times I went to his house and together we made a Christmas or Thanksgiving dinner, His back would act up at times and cause him discomfort so he would ask me to rub what ever concoction he or I had at the time. After my father passed and at the time my Mom was in a nursing home I decided to donate certain pieces of equipment to Hospice Georgina. I called Uncle Sam and asked if he could help me get the walkers etc.. to the Hospice and he came straight away and we got the job done. Last but not least I am sure many people are going to miss his tomatoes that he would sell every summer. Uncle Sam I will miss you. RIP. Say Hi to my Mom, Dad, and many others. You know who they are.
