Our condolences to Gaye and other family members. I was deeply saddened to hear of Reg’s passing. I have long felt both indebtedness and gratitude to Reg for the hospitality of his and Gaye’s home in Longlac, the fishing trips we took down the nearby bush roads of Longlac, and for his leadership at the school. Reg knew how to make the most of a day, always on the go. He was often undaunted by the challenges he faced. “There’s a way where there’s a will” he said on occasion. I have many fond memories of Reg.

My condolences to Gaye and family for your loss.
I have many fond memories of time spent with Reg on a number of motorcycle rides.
I remember the ride to Bancroft in particular. The band had been performing all day in the bandshell at the park in Bancroft and decided it was time for a break. Reg took to the stage, stepped up to the microphone and entertained us all with his jokes. I was amazed that Reg never ran out of material and kept telling jokes until the band came back on stage. I think back on that day and Reg still gives me a chuckle. Reg made that day memorable for me and everyone else there that day. Reg will be missed.

We wish to extend our sympathy to Gaye and Family. We are so very sorry to hear of this very sad news. Reg and Gaye sold us our house when we moved to Keswick and became our dear neighbours, as they moved only 2 doors down from us. We remember with fondness how Reg would often stop by the house for a quick chat and a laugh. He usually had a smile on his face and a funny story to share. May God comfort you all and continually remind you of all the good memories that you have of this precious man. Love, Hal and Rhoda Arthurs

Sending my condolences, Gaye, and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Thinking about Reg today. We first met in 1974 when I taught briefly at Marjorie Mills Public School in Longlac where he was principal. Reg was always warm, kind and supportive. I remember that Tony DInardo used to tease him for shedding tears during the Sunday night family-oriented television shows. I thought that was so sweet and have always remembered that story. I know that your friends and family will be there to support you, and hope that your many years of happy memories will comfort you.

Our sincere condolences to Gaye and Reg’s families. Reg was a great friend and will be greatly missed by our family. To us, Reg and Gaye were our Longlac family. Many great times were shared at our home and theirs. I am ever grateful for Reg hiring me and giving me the opportunity to have a career that I dearly loved and working with people that have become lifelong friends. Reg loved being thrifty. We can still see the smile on our daughter’s face when he walked through our kitchen door with a pile of used copy paper from the school that he brought her to colour on. She was absolutely thrilled and began to sort it right away. He was there for us to give us a warm fuzzy when our son went away to Air Cadet camp for the first time. He was there at our children’s weddings and when we had personal tragedies. In short, Reg was the guy who would be there for you. As with anyone who knew Reg, there were lots of laughs and good times. You knew he was thinking when he started chewing on his toothpicks. You never knew what he was thinking up next. One of his sayings at school was, “every doggy has his day.” We’re just so saddened that today was his final day. Sending hugs and prayers. Betty, Michael, David and Laura

Reg.will never be forgotten. He is a good friend even though I haven’t seen him and Gaye for years…ReGaye. Always working and studying every summer. Reg worked on the Super Bowl of curling and we brought in world class curlers from all over Canada and the world in little Longlac. Reg curled with our team in Duluth-Superior International curling competition of 164 teams. We won that year beating a world champion Bud Somerville in the semifinals and the N. Dakota state champs in the final. Reg was ecstatic and so happy. We won color tvs. 3 went in the trunk and one in the back seat right beside Reg. When we got to the border they asked what we did in the US? Curling was the answer and we won tvs Reg said. The border guy says “one tv for you all” and Reg tells the guard, One tv for four guys, Are you kidding, there is 3 more in the trunk. It was very funny at the time the way it came out. But Reg did everything from teaching to roofing and everything in between. I sum up Reg with one word, “INDEFATIGABLE”
Reg you will be remembered as a friend and hard worker. Rest In Peace.
Your friend,
Réal

Reg will be so fondly remembered as our times that Holly & I spent together invariably were filled with laughter and much appreciated fun. There are numerous 'take-aways' borrowed from Reg that will continue to resonate with us. He worked hard and played hard and as he acknowledged more than once, Reg would sometimes say.....we only get one 'Go Round.' I believe Reg lived a fulfilling life. Memories of Reg have enriched our time here. Hugs to Gaye & Family. He's going to be missed by many folks.

My sincere condolences to Gaye and Reg's family. Reg was a very important part of my life. He was the one who hired me for the teaching position in Longlac. The interview was held at the King Edward hotel...in the bar, while he was on a school trip. The next year it was me taking the Grade 8'ers to Toronto for the week. I spent 14 years living in Longlac and loved it all. Reg and Gaye became very good friends......A couple of memories that pop to mind.... One Christmas Reg received a power ice auger and he wanted me to go with him to McKay Lake to try it out....Well, he gave it a good try as my memory is of Reg punching about thirty holes through four feet of ice. I don't remember fishing very much, though. Another memory...if you knew Reg then you knew he always had something on the go to make a little extra money...such as when he would come back from Southern Ontario in August with a truckload of sweet corn to sell. Once we were out moose hunting. I was driving along in my GMC red pickup and Reg was in the passenger seat. We had been out and driving for a while. The road I have forgotten. What I have not forgot, though, was Reg suddenly screaming ...'"STOP, STOP, STOP." I slammed on the brakes my heart racing as a turned to the rack for my rifle, expecting to see a moose. Reg hopped out of the truck and picked up a beer bottle for the refund. I also have many, many memories of June weekend outings with the male teachers group, including fly in fishing trips to Ottoman Lake, and an overnight excursion onto Lake Nipigon. The last time I saw Reg, he and Real Fournier dropped into my place in Collingwood to share a wedding anniversary with me and Cindy. Reg was a great guy and he lead a great life. He will be missed...but never forgotten.
