I often spoke with George in the mornings. He was either out on his front steps enjoying the day or in his car on his way to or from one of his daily activities. He was always quick with a kind word or a positive message. He and Ruth were icons in the neighborhood. They both will be always missed.

I moved to Lake Dr two years ago and it wasn’t long before I befriended George on my daily dog walks. George was so proud of his family and spoke fondly of them. He deeply missed Ruth, whom I did not know.
I will miss our talks that covered a huge range of topics.
May your spirit soar in your new life.

This note is to the entire Higgins Family. Ron and I checked multiple times to see if it would be possible to come to Toronto to attend the funeral service for George. Sadly, it was just not possible for us. We hope the service is meaningful and brings you comfort. George was such a wonderful man. We had several phone call chats with him since we moved to Vancouver Island. We laughed and shared lots of stories. Please know that we will thinking about and praying for you all on Saturday.
With love – Ginny and Ron

I remember George to always have a smile and enjoyed hosting yearly Christmas family gathering at their house and we even had the occasional summer family get together at the cottage. George touched a lot of hearts and will be missed by everyone.
My thoughts are with the whole family.

Over the years, while cycling or walking along Lake Drive I stopped to talk with George, who was often gardening with Ruth or sitting on the porch. He was always ready with a friendly greeting and a broad smile.
I’ll miss him.

I may have never met Geore, were it not for all of his beloved wife’s involvement in the Queensville Players. I am thankful for knowing Ruth because that allowed me the very brief encounters of getting to know George.
May he rest in peace, together again with Ruth.
My deepest condolences to all of his wonderful family.
Sincerely, and with warmest thoughts and prayers,
Patsi

Although Mr. Higgins was one of my teachers at ACI, connecting with him on Facebook recently, has been a fun and uplifting experience. He posted beautiful motivational and often funny things and then engaged through the comments. His online absence was immediately noticed. He will be missed. I am grateful for the past few years of interaction with such a great soul. My condolences to his family for their great loss.

Mr. Higgins was the best teacher! His class was always interesting and engaging. On top of that he was a real person, he connected with us - he came to our prom - something I doubt todays teachers aren’t allowed to do I’m sure. But it meant something to us - it meant he cared about us.
He was a bright light.
I am sorry for your family’s loss. I know he will be missed.

Our merry lunch group is and will be a little less lively now that George can no longer attend but I am sure he will be remembered in many ways. The ROMEOS were always a sanctuary ... for a good lunch, shared views and opinions ... sometimes George and I sparred on certain subjects but it always ended amicably ... he was a true gentle person. He will be missed but pretty sure he is scouting good places for us all to meet one day somewhere beyond here for a lively and friendly lunch.
My condolences to all the members of his family. Remember he was loved by many for all he gave to us. John and Jean Ecclestone

My sincerest condolences to the family. God bless Mr. Higgins (affectionately AKA "Higgy Baby" or the "Bald Eagle", to name just a few nicknames the ACI students gave him if I recall correctly)? Why he went by George and not by William, Will or Bill is unknown to me.
George and my father, Don Frattaroli, both attended East York Collegiate during their high school years. My dad, who passed away in Oct 2016, remembered George and vice versa.
I, Greg Frattaroli, had the pleasure of having Mr. Higgins for Gr. 9 English at ACI in the mid 1980's. He had a great sense of humour. He was one of the most popular teachers, and he routinely volunteered to act as a teacher chaperone during high school dances (because I believe he loved being with the students).
My sister, Kristi, also had the pleasure of having Mr. Higgins 2 years later. I recall a funny story she shared with me, when the class was studying Shakespeare. At some point well into the play/novel, Mr. Higgins commented that the characters, who were lovers and relatives, would likely have kids with multiple heads. My sister and George began laughing, while no one else in the class understood what was so funny.
God bless you George!

George was one of those teachers that made the dullness of high-school tolerable. His wit, along with his commitment to challenging his students, made for some lasting memories. I had recently exchanged a few texts with him as we discussed the fact that I had been looking at some waterfront properties nearby, and the next time up we would get together. I am saddened that we missed the opportunity. Rest well my friend.
