Joe was a gentle giant in Bernie and my life. So understanding and loving. Our sons adored him while they were growing up. They always had a great time with their uncle Joe. We all miss him so much. Health and Covid 19 has prevented us from travelling to Toronto to be with him and our beloved June. We are sharing these photos to bring a smile to family and friends.

Our hearts are broken for you June. A love so great as the one you and Joe shared together, is a rare gift indeed and one that will live forever. Thank you for sharing your love with all of us.
Being at the cottage were the best days of my life. Sharing those precious days with June & Joe are memories our family will always fondly cherish. When I heard June & Joe were coming to the lake, I watched from the back porch in eager anticipation of what would be a weekend of abundant love, laughter and great fun. Early morning & late night swims, lawn darts, after supper boat rides, bon fires, charades and telling jokes all night long.
We will always remember Joe’s gentle and loving ways as well as his great sense of humour. This we will surely miss.
Cheers to you Joe!!. I am sure you are enjoying a few laughs and a few cool ones with Grandpop, Penny and Dad.
Love from the Newell’s.

As I look through my photos this week I was reminded how much fun Uncle Joe always had w the kids. All family dinners there he was with a whole whack of kids piling on him, laughing and him teasing them. We are all missing him already.

As we sit here thinking of all the years of memories, it's hard to pick just a few to mention. Joe was always there when you needed him, a loving man with a tremendous heart. I remember Joe bringing me on dates he and June would go on, we would spend the nights driving around blaring the music, the three of us getting home just in time to get ready for work. From the time he met my husband Rick in 1974, everyone could tell how much alike they were and called them the Smith Brothers, brothers from another mother who fit together like pieces of a puzzle. Time seemed to have no meaning when it came to our friendships, despite the distance between Ontario and BC, we would always pick up right where we left off. It was a very proud moment for both June and Joe, and a very special one for us, when they accepted our ask of them to be godparents to our eldest son, Rob.
As heavy the feeling was to hear of Joe's passing, we take comfort in knowing the angels needed his kind heart and soul. We know it is only a moment in time, before we are all reunited again to share in the laughs and memories of our lives. You are always with us in our hearts, where you will be for eternity. May you rest in peace now, without pain, amongst the angels. Until we meet again, my dearest friend.
Love Always,
Sharon, Rick, Rob and Cristal xo xo xo xo

What a great guy, quiet, caring and so gentle. I met Joe when the two of you were dating. My brother Werner and I kept an eye on you two especially when the two of you were in the car in your parents driveway, kind of close. LOL. About fifteen years later Joe joined my cleaning company and he took care of my cleaning team. One day you saw me stressed out running the business. You gave me some advise " smell the roses ". Time slips by, we both go in different directions. I always remember you telling me to " smell the roses ". Well my friend I am doing just that now that I am retired. Thanks for the advise, you were always a positive influence in my life. Rest in peace

A love that lasted decades. They defined and lived the essence of marriage . From the start, they shared their love with anyone who arrived on their doorstep, family, friends or until that moment, strangers. Death does not separate them. They are just together in a new way.

Gerry, my brother, who I met a year ago. Though the time we had was brief, the impact will remain with me forever. I am grateful to have had the pleasure to spend some time with you and June. I can only imagine our lives if we had been united sooner-surely richer. You made an impression with your peaceful, calm, manner and subtle sense of humour. You are missed and will forever be in my thoughts and in my heart.
May you rest in the arms of the Creator and continue to give strength to those who know you.
