Mary Lee

Obituary of Mary Lillian Lee

Aunt Mary was born June 25, 1934 in Notawasaga, Ontario.  She was the youngest child of beloved parents Stephen and Grace Hoadley who had emigrated from England in the 1920’s.  She started working in an office and eventually ended up owning her own business.  She was a bit of a trailblazer as it was still unusual in that era for a woman to actually start and own her own business especially in the plumbing industry!  Aunt Mary had worked her way up the ranks to become the purchasing agent for a supplier of brass fittings and plumbing equipment.  As time passed, she changed companies a couple of times but remained in the same industry and became well known and highly respected by her peers.  As her knowledge and confidence grew, she decided if others can run a business, so can I, so she started her own company selling plumbing supplies and drain cleaning machines.   Her stylishly dressed, petite frame could equal or surpass any male counterpart when it came to the understanding and demonstration of any drain cleaning or pipe threading equipment.  All while wearing her iconic high heels!  Aunt Mary had a strong, no nonsense work ethic and expected the same of her employees as she built her own successful business. Aunt Mary enjoyed many hobbies like gardening, interior decorating, sewing, painting, playing piano and entertaining. She died peacefully at the Renoir Nursing Home in Newmarket on Monday March 14, 2022, at the age of 87 years. Beloved partner of the late Frank Guerin (2019). Loving sister of the late Gerald Hoadley (Mabel), Kathleen (Ted Powney) and Dorothy (Alex Powney). Aunt Mary will be deeply missed by her loving nieces, nephews and their cherished families. Ellen Louzon (late Jerry), Jim Peacock (Leita), Jeff Hoadley (Cathy), Sharon Leno, Colleen Powney and predeceased by Lynn and Ed. Mary was a kind and caring stepmother to Lorna, Mike, Paul, Peter, Jennifer, David and their families. Special thanks to the many kind Belhaven neighbours and the compassionate “Memory Care” staff at the Renoir. Visitation will be held at the M.W. Becker Funeral Home, 490 The Queensway South, Keswick, on Friday, March 18, 2022 from 11:30 – 1:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment at Queensville Cemetery. In memory of Mary, donations made to the Salvation Army, or Stronach Cancer Centre would be appreciated. Sign an online book of condolences at mwbeckerfuneralhome.com
