Obituary of Joan Ethel Johnston
Johnston, Joan Ethel (nee O’Reilly)
She was always particularly fond of that middle name…not. Finally at rest and without pain, Mom passed away at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the age of 89. Born in Toronto on July 15, 1932, daughter to Albert William & Gertrude Ethel and predeceased by her husband, Thomas Johnston. Mom to Tracey (Norm Ratcliffe) of Keswick. Grandma to Jake and Samantha. Predeceased by her brother ‘Bob’ (Carole). Auntie Joan (JJ) to Susan and Michele. Over the years, many friendships were forged through mom’s love of dancing, particularly to jazz bands. Less than 3 years ago, she could still be found on the dance floor with her companion Ernie Wilson (predeceased). She also enjoyed golf, her beloved Blue Jays, cooking, sunbathing (is this a sport?) & bowling and was a skilled dressmaker, often reproducing items for herself by well-known designers. Much of my early childhood wardrobe was “Made with Love by Mom” and many matching outfits with Sue & Shelly will be forever discussed at our therapy sessions! Have a drink in mom’s honour and reminisce, especially about the crazy stuff – I’ll start…Hospitality Inn, Cleveland, Balmy Beach, Variety Village, Jamestown, white-water rafting… “Enjoy life, you only get one.”
Interment will take place on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Prospect Cemetery, 1450 St. Clair Ave. West, Toronto for all who wish to attend.
