Al was a good man. I started off being a customer and he ended up being a friend. I am sure many can say the same. Rest in peace my friend.

I met Al when he was building the shop at the nursery over 20 years ago. I was hooking up the air compressor and Al asked me who I was and if I wanted to come work for him. I did and he became my best friend. We both loved dogs and all animals. We also both loved watching the Nascar races and drag races. I will miss my trips to the States with Al and all the adventures we had. I miss my best friend.

Al Richards will be greatly missed. We both shared a passion for fishing and the wonderful world of plants and I so enjoyed those pone calls over the years.

It is so sad to lose a great father wonderful business man and a true friend. You touched all who were fortunate to meet you. Mom and I were lucky enough to spend many holidays, casino trips and cottage vacations with Al .His crazy humour and sometimes questionable antics always made for a great time.I will always have a smile and giggle in my heart when I think of you Al. Thanks for all the great times and until we meet again Al “keep your cheeks up and your roots in the ground “. Xoxo

To the family of Alfred Richards I offer my deepest and most sincere condolences.
With profound sadness I reflect upon the many years (25+) at the nursery working for and with Al.
There were many challenges: floods, storms of ice, wind, snow and hail, technical and operational snags,
pests, even a pandemic. Yet, through it all, his knowledge, wisdom and resolve never faltered. He was a
great mentor and I learned so much from him.
In the world of plants, trees are the kings. All around Holland Landing and throughout the region stand many
trees, tall and strong, thriving in the light and warmth of the sun. They are home to a perpetual parade of creatures
and give restful shade to grateful puppies, kittens, and so much more.
All by way of Al and his caring, dedicated staff. What a everlasting tribute.
When the grip of this winter eases, I shall plant a blue spruce tree, (his favorite) by the river, where the sun always shines.
Al, go with Grace as you exit the greatest stage in Holland Landing. Goodspeed.

I first met Al in the late 70’s and as I had a passion for landscaping we quickly became good friends. Over the years our friendship grew. We became involved in various business ventures – some actually worked – but not all. It never stopped us from continually looking at things to get into. Al was never short of ideas. He had a love of golf and I was fortunate enough to play many rounds with him before his physical limitations set in. His ability to multi task was truly amazing and he could handle numerous emergencies without getter flustered. Perhaps his greatest attribute was his generosity – Al was always trying to help others – it was an everyday occurrence for him – the list of people he helped would go on forever. The only thing bigger than Al was his heart. In the last 10 years he slowed down but if anything our almost daily phone calls and office visits picked up. I’ll miss those calls. We’ve lost one of the best but I envision him fishing – one of his passions, at the cottage on Gull Lake followed by numerous hours playing on line poker or searching the web for vehicles or items to be purchased for the nursery. An idle man he was not. Sleep well my friend. We’ll pick up discussions down the road. B

Rob and Devon, Shaun and Randall and Jackie, my sincere condolences
Since my retirement I helped out around the nursery and Al became a friend
Both my sons Ryan and Jordan worked for Al over the years and always thought highly of him. Al also thought highly of my boys as he told me so many times. Al always asked about my family whenever we spoke.
We were all treated right by Al
Rest In Peace

My father-in-law, Al, was truly a larger-than-life character who lived his life to the fullest. I'll miss his fun-loving personality, irreverent spirit, and joking banter. I have many fond memories of our time spent together as a family -- at the cottage on Gull Lake, in Las Vegas, down south in Florida and Mexico, and elsewhere -- and those memories will always be with me. We shared a love for poker and had a lot of fun times playing, watching, and talking about the game together. I will forever admire his capacity to plow ahead and make the best of things no matter what life throws at you. May he rest in peace.

I want you to know Al, that I am wishing for you a safe and gentle passage into the land beyond.
I hold lamp to guide you on your way as I did hold the lamp for your friend - my beloved Kos/Gus
My favourite memory of you would always be the wilderness fishing Dejardin in Quebec with Kylie and Fred driving the boat .
Thank you for your friendship and computer lessons. The lakes up north and me will miss you.

My favourite memory of Al would be when he took me to his fishing camp in Quebec (Zec Restigo) to catch my biggest fish of all time. One day he asked me how big my biggest fish was. "A pike the length of my arm on the French River" I replied. "We'll get you one twice that size at Zec!" Al told me.
Two weeks later we were headed up to the wilderness of Quebec with Rob and our Aussie Kylie. The road in was awful. The mosquitos were awful. But the views and the fresh air were amazing! We went out early Saturday morning in Al's trusty Lund and Rob started rigging up the down riggers. Al stopped the boat at 'the spot' on Lac Bleu. He went into a fast troll and Rob dropped the downriggers. Not ten minutes later the down rigger on Rob's side popped up. "Give it to Devon!" yelled Al. Rob gave me the line and I struggled to bring in a HUGE lake trout.
Once landed, I remember Al had the biggest grin. Kylie, of course, was going crazy in the boat, jumping on seats and barking. We took a quick measure and a photo and released the big boy back into the lake. "We'll catch ten more like that before the end of the weekend," Al told me. We did too! And that was how Al showed me how to catch massive lakers.
Every time I go fishing I will remember Al, his love of the outdoors and his amazing skill as a fisherman. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
