I was very lucky to have gotten to know Michael when my youngest son Austin became best friends with his grandson Brayden when they began at St. Thomas. I also had a wonderful opportunity to work along side him at St Thomas when I worked there as an educational assistant. Marianne and Michael also took my son Austin in while I worked with the school board,
He was such a funny, kind and thoughtful person and always had interesting ways to get his students thinking and learning.
My condolences to Marianne, Matthew, Brieann, Brayden and Sean.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I was blessed to have Mr. Dillon as a teacher twice in both grade 7 & 8 at Prince of Peace.
He was old-fashioned, but in a good way; maybe "classic" is a better word then? I remember him often wearing a suit and tie to school, looking very much like the photo on this page, which demonstrated to us it was proper to take pride in our appearance, and made him kind of a boss. When you entered his classroom you were addressed as "Sir" or "Ma'am" and expected to use these terms to address your peers, which I think was strange for most of us, but we enjoyed it. He invited us and challenged us to take responsibility for ourselves as the young men and women we were becoming. He gave us that particular type of tough love that young people seem to crave and need from a respectable man who knows himself and his place in the world.
He wasn't shy about standing up to a student who was out of line and we respected him for it. I can still hear his voice in my head asking, "Sir! Are you rude, or just ignorant?" I'm pretty sure he was talking to someone else though when he said this...
I remember him as equally firm and fair, with an engaging and unique way of teaching that has stayed with me to this day. And when we weren't engaged he had us buzzing on 5's and fizzing on 7's, singing oom-pa-pas, um-tidly-dees, and na-na-na nas, or, "I don't want to work, I just want to bank on my desk all day!" He knew we needed a way to let off some steam now and then in the classroom and we had fun doing it together.
In his classroom I made lifelong friends, began to find a voice as a writer, was introduced to Canadian politics during an election, and completed projects I was proud of for decades. How do you properly thank the man who helped you become a man, a citizen, a professional, a father, and more; I've tried to briefly here. He certainly knew how to help each one of us find a way to give our best, and he continues to live on in each of us because of this. The good work you did continues to live on Sir!
I hope I saved enough paper by writing on both sides Sir, as you always insisted, so that there are at least a couple of trees left for you to string up that hammock you used to talk about, wherever that may be. Rest in peace Sir.

My condolences to Mr. Dillon and his loved ones.
I had the privilege of having Mr. Dillon as my teacher in Grade 8 in the class of 2001 at Prince of Peace.
He was an excellent teacher and a fantastic role model to all students. He taught with a fiery passion. I have no doubt that spending a year in his class made me a better person. Grade 8 is a transitional and difficult year but Mr. Dillon was perfectly up to the task. He taught beyond the curriculum, he taught us about life, and he taught us how to think.
He was also a leader, he was present in the early years at Prince of Peace and he played a key role in developing the school's culture and programs. Students viewed him as an institution and viewed his Grade 8 class as a rite of passage.
Mr. Dillon also personally knew my grandfather, Larry Power, from early in his career. Mr. Dillon went out of his way to tell me stories about my Grandpa and their work experiences together. This was a special gift to me. It allowed me to view my Grandpa from the perspective of his colleagues and gave me insights into his values, which I've tried to emulate as I advance in my own career and life.
Thank you Mr. Dillon for all you did for your students, you had a great impact and you will be deeply missed.

Mr. Dillon was my grade 7 & 8 teacher. He had a huge impact on me during my adolescent years. He always encouraged me to push through and never give up. As an employee of the YCDSB I had the privilege of bumping into him a few years ago as we were both supplying. He was the same man I remember from 15 years ago. He has left an everlasting impression on not only myself but the many others he crossed paths with. My sincere condolences to the Dillon family. Rest In Peace sir.

Mr. Dillon was one of the greatest teachers I had the privilege of learning from. The epitome of a mentor, and anyone who was lucky enough to have this gem of a human being as their grade 8 teacher, should agree.
Reminiscing of my time with him, I can say without a doubt, he was the one teacher who taught me that school and work do not have to be chores, they can be fun and entertaining.
Without this man, I, and many more of his pupils, would not be the people we are today.
A sad day to hear of his passing, but nevertheless, he memory and teachings will live on for generations.
My condolences to the entirety of his family, he will be missed.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends of this incredible man. From a young age he taught us the importance of kindness and respect, lessons which many of us can still remember to this day. When Prince of Peace was first opening, many of us were there in those early years, and Mr. Dillon was there with us carving the schools new legacy. He was the type of man who made you want to do more, and expect more from yourself, and pushed everyone to become their best self. Thank you Mr. Dillon for giving so much of yourself to building the next generation of learners and teachers, the world is a much better place thanks to the amazing impact and lessons you shared with so many of us over the years.
You will be missed, but never forgotten!

Very shocked and saddened to hear of Mike’s passing. My memories of him go back to when he was a very young man. He always had a smile and a great sense of humour. I last saw him at a wedding when he joined us in singing “Wake Up Little Suzy” and “Proud Mary”. I will always remember Mike and Marianne playing guitar and singing “Teach Your Children Well. According to his students, he did just that. Rest In Peace, Mike. It was a pleasure knowing you. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

I am very sorry for you loss, Mr. Dillon is the reason i am working in education. Mr. Dillon inspired so many of us to be true to who we are and reach for our potential every day.
Since hearing the news of his passing we have been connecting with each other, sharing memories almost like no time has past. One of my favorite memories is when he would sing, "i don't want to work, i just want to bang on my drum all day" with a broom in hand and marching, having us all sing a long with him, banding on desks, and making every day count.
Mr. Dillon was special! No one compares to this amazing man and may he rest in peace in heaven.

My heart is saddened to learn of the loss of Mr. Dillon, he was one of the teachers that had a lasting impression on my life as a young person. I still to this day repeat some of the things he taught us or said during class. There are far too few teachers of his calibre and I feel honoured to have been one of his students. I hope that your family knows that your memory won’t just live on through them, but will endure in the hearts and minds of his students.

Mr Dillon was a remarkable man. A man of many laughs and stories. My daughter looked up to him, and said to me " who would have ever thought my grade 3 supply teacher would have such an impact on my life?" Lucky for my daughter Chloe she became part of his family by becoming best friends with his grandson Brayden. 8 years later our families are still in touch and Chloe still being part of their welcoming family. Mike always was smiling and he always told me how much he adored Chloe and Braydens friendship and how she was always welcome to his families home. Mike will be missed tremendously. Out thoughts and prayers our with all of you during this difficult time. Love Heather,Mike Chloe and Luca
