Dear Rick, Kristen, Rachel et al...
I met Karen many years ago at Chartland elementary school since Iroquois PS wasn't built yet. Shortly after meeting, Karen came over to my house to play a game called Green Ghost. We had to set it up in my parents walk in closet so we could shut out any daylight because it was during the middle of the day. I forget who won.
I spent many a summer afternoon swimming in the McWatters "coffin" shaped pool.
There are many more stories, but some that shouldn't be told on this public space.
I, as will many, miss Karen's infectious laughter, her kindness and love for life.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.
Peace be with you all,
Linda (Nice) and Paul Allicock

So sorry to hear about Karen's passing. Our condolences to her whole family.
Karen was a fantastic teacher and taught all four of our children, inspiring one of them to pursue an Accounting Degree and profession. I always enjoyed our discussions whenever it was parents night, or whenever we happened to pass by each other in the halls at KHS. She always had a smile and jovial personality, and was always interested in how our other children were doing. Although our children are now adults and no longer in school, they all remember her fondly and are saddened by the news.
Again, our condolences.

It is a sad day when a dear friend is taken from all of us too soon. Karen was a kind, caring, dedicated teacher and SERT. She could always be found in her office when she wasn't teaching, working diligently to help her students. She did all this alongside her friend Ellie, they were literally two peas in (the) pod. The entire staff and students of KHS will miss her more than words can express. I smile, as I can see Karen walking the halls in her cowboy boots or in her high heels. I will miss our talks in the halls, staff room,in Karen's office, during our SERT meetings and especially in my classroom/salon,where I was instructed only to cut an inch of Karen's hair (she loved her long hair), all the while having deep discussions of our children and families.
To Rick, Kristen and Rachel, I am so sorry for your loss. Karen was a good person and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Love and Prayers Anne Davy

I was so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing, she was always someone so full of gusto and desire.
I can’t even remember how long we have been teaching together now (it feels like a lifetime), but I have great memories of someone who walked in High Heels everyday, much to my amazement. A trusted colleague who you could confide in and talk openly to, whenever needed. Karen worked so hard to ensure that students at KHS were ready for the next phase of life. And was always someone who lite up the staff room just a little more with her humour.
I will miss our conversations about her little farm and the changes in East Gwillimbury and about how excited she was with the new pad.
Too soon have you left us, but there are great memories. Condolences to all the family through these hard times.
Donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Karen’s memory.

Karen was part of the fabric at KHS. She was the kind of woman who could have meaningful, fun, and lighthearted conversations all in a matter of 5 minutes. She touched the lives of so many students; today we spent the period talking about her and her importance as a person. She was more than just a teacher, she was someone many people relied on and cherished. It was clear to me that she was an important person to many of the students in class, so we held space for each other today. Many stories were shared, and we laughed thinking about her unique way of getting things done! She was a straight shooter and was funny about calling people out on their "stuff" when necessary.
Rest in peace, Karen. Your laughter will forever echo in the halls and hearts of KHS. <3

My sincere condolences to the entire family. I've been friends with Karen since high school. While the years passed and many of us went our separate ways, Karen was the glue that kept the high school friends in touch. So many great memories with lots of stories and laughs. Karen you will be greatly missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Karen passing. My deepest sympathy to all of you. Karen was one of my bridesmaids, I've known her since grade nine. We had many years of laughter, and we certainly got into our share of mischief in our youth. I'll never forget her belly laughter and warmth. She was the glue that kept our high school chums connected. She will be sooooo missed.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family. Mrs McInnis was by far one of the best teachers I had the opportunity to learn from. Her constant positive attitude, and humor always lit up the class. She was such an amazing support system to myself and many other students, I truly hope her spirit lives on forever. May she rest peacefully.

Karen you were a special classy lady. You made me laugh and you yourself had a laugh that made everyone around you giggle. You were such a good sport you never got upset even when I had to give you those last minute on calls. You just smiled and said hey no worries. You always had a ear when I needed it. What a very sad time for Karen’s family, friends, colleagues and students. Karen was a dedicated teacher who was quick to advocate for a student who needed support. She set high expectations for her students and for herself as a teacher. I have so many fond memories of chats with Karen that often left us laughing. I loved her sense of humour. I can’t imagine the halls of KHS without Karen.
My deepest condolences to her family. She was so very proud of her children and never missed a chance to share an update about their lives.
Karen will be missed by so many who were part of her life.

I counted Karen as a friend, not just a colleague. Her infectious chuckle (you can hear it can't you), and willingness to engage in a bit of fun was so appreciated. She was the one staff member who, always working late in her office, came running the evening that I called out for help. I counted on her to come through for students, for school events and to basically brighten a room every time she entered on those high heels. Just good people. The world needs more of her. My heart goes out to those closest to her.

I have worked for fifteen years with Karen and have always been in awe of her ability to connect with her students, often very challenging ones. She was a straight shooter, and always had students' best interests at heart. She would always tell it like it was, and the students respected it coming from her. This is an exceptional talent that not many possess.
I used to head down to the business office from time to time just to chat with her and vent about whatever was frustrating us at that moment - I will miss those impromptu meetings very much.
She was truly a pillar of our school who did so many things not for recognition, but because she knew that they were the right things to do. She was an advocate for her students, and improved so many lives throughout her career as an educator and as a caring human being.
She was a truly wonderful lady, a joy to work with, and I will miss her dearly.

This is heart breaking news! I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, daughter, wife and friend♥️
Mrs. McInnis was my grade 9 business tech teacher and one of my favourite High School teachers. We always had so much fun in her class. She was always able keep things light hearted and fun yet serious at the same time! She was an incredible educator and wonderful woman. We ran into her at dinner this winter and had a long great chat with her. We shared so many fond memories of being in her class.
My condolences to her family, friends and co-workers. My heart is with you ♥️ she will be greatly missed.
