I was saddened to hear of Graham’s passing. Graham and I shared a love of genealogy and we exchanged information on our common ancestor Robert Lee Whiting of Harbour Grace, Newfoundland over the years. Sadly we lost contact in more recent years but I have never forgotten him and how willing and generous he was to offer assistance to a relatively new researcher and to share his research material with me. He will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family and may his memory be a blessing.

I joined Theoretical Physics in 1970, the junior member of the branch. Graham was the ‘boss’, and we referred to him affectionately as the ‘boss’. Graham was very unobtrusive in his ‘boss-ship’, providing quiet help when asked, but for the most part allowing us branch members to get on with our thing.
Graham was also an avid bridge player, as am I. So we saw a lot of each other over the bridge table. Graham was treasurer of the local bridge club for at least two decades his financial reports were a model of consistency.
Graham filed everything. Lost a physics note? Graham had a copy. I am now custodian of Graham’s files from the bridge club, all meticulously labelled.
To Graham’s family, Sandy and I express our condolences. He was a special friend.

I have numerous memories of Graham during our various get togethers, but one is unique. For many years I was a newspaper reporter in Connecticut. One of the towns I periodically covered was Deep River. When Graham visited my family in Connecticut, I took him to Deep River. He met several officials at townhall and he brought greetings from Deep River, Ontario. Carolyn Gilbert

I will always remember Graham as a gentleman, very polite and always dressed neatly with a tie. He was kind, very smart, enjoyed the outdoors, loved the arts and had an unusual sense of humour. Graham enjoyed coming down from Deep River to be part of the family holidays and fabulous dinners that his sister, Phyllis Wilson, was famous for!. Not only is the Wilson family better for him being part of it, but Canada is a better place because of Graham and his knowledge! A peaceful passing was what this wonderful man deserved.

Uncle Graham! Words could never describe him, he was so unique and so amazing. Uncle Graham was always there for us, in his quiet and supportive way. He lived a very interesting life, following his passion in terms of science and theoretical physics, enjoying the great outdoors, playing bridge, and supporting our Aunt Brenda in her journey to research, capture images and write her books and newspaper articles about the German and Polish settlers in Renfrew County. Truly a life long learner, Uncle Graham had so many interests it was hard to keep up with, and his library was full of books on so many topics, including art, culture, science, politics, religion, languages, travel, ... it seems the list is endless.
Uncle Graham enjoyed skating on the Ottawa River. In fact, he loved to tell the story of skating along on a beautiful day to suddenly hear the rush of water ahead of him, as he then realized that there was open water where he expected ice. Thankfully, he was able to turn around and return to safety. Uncle Graham also talked about his canoeing trips, including a trip with several men to James Bay. He had a nice little boat with an outboard motor that he took out on the Ottawa River, and for a while he took up windsurfing. When I was a child, Uncle Graham would visit in the winter time and off we would go to the pond in the bush, where he would work away at clearing the ice and then help me put on my skates so we could skate the afternoon away.
One thing that always stood out for me in his latter years was that Uncle Graham and I would check in by phone periodically, and he would never fail to ask how my mother was and ask if she needed anything. He was a wonderful brother to my mom, enjoying many visits to Keswick where Uncle Graham, my mom and my dad played countless card games. He was always concerned and checking on my mom's well-being.
Uncle Graham visited with us in Florida several times, and had a great time joining into the bridge games at the park and investigating the area with us. One of my most interesting memories of Uncle Graham is when I looked out the window and saw him standing on Blackburn Street (which runs north) in North Port with his hand straight up in the air, and then he bent forward bringing his arm downward. He was a bit wobbly, and I thought he was going to fall over, but he kept upright. I asked him when he came in what he had been doing, and he said "Well, I have a theory that the longitude of Blackburn St. is (X) and I was seeing if I could prove this theory right." I looked on his bed and true to form he had a yellow foolscap sheet of paper with a formula on it, something like "If this ... then this ... and lots of numbers and symbols. This was our Uncle Graham, he was always doing some sort of calculation. When I asked him how it all worked out, he replied "I was correct".
I will be forever thankful for the great privilege of having Uncle Graham as my uncle, and my dear friend. In his latter years, we had an opportunity to really get to know each other, and my children Jesse and Leah were able to form a very strong bond with him. Uncle Graham was a joy to know and to spend time with. His kindness and love were like a rock in my life, and I will miss him so much.
With love, always,
Susan

We would BBQ our steaks so " blue" that only he and I could eat them , share a new red wine that we had found wherever , a tour of my motorcycle custom shop to see what I had been up to ,and showing him my large collection of antique rifles and revolvers and rare ammunitions. In his somber way checking to see that I (we) were all ok. Will really miss him and the wry smile Tim Wilson
