Melissa was a bright light - always front row in my classes, with her bigger than life smile, always asking me about my day and checking in on me. We found out early on that we shared a birthday and one has not passed since where we were not in touch. She developed lasting friendships with her college peers. She was a memorable student ... and she always had the best questions - ones that kept me on my toes. Rest peacefully Melissa. You will be greatly missed.

We have known Melissa for 10 years, and she was a family-friend. She worked for us, but it was more than a work relationship, as you can see here in this photo. Everyone liked Melissa - my hairy cats, my kids, anyone who met her. She was always so positive and strong. I worried about her when I'd hear the stories of violence at work. That with the long hours. ...I just wish I had recognized the signs sooner. I would have wanted to help. Melissa enjoyed helping people. She was an essential worker, and worked LONG hours when others quit, were fired due to mental breakdowns or had medical reason not to go to work. ...but Melissa powered through it, and it cost her her life. Make no mistake, her work conditions have a LOT to do with what happened. Sorry for the harsh message, but someone needs to speak up and take a stand for Melissa. She is a victim of the system.
To her family, I can't imagine the shock and loss you must feel. I hope you find the strength, spirit and will to push through every minute, hour and day of this heart-breaking time. I hope you seek to heal your hearts in healthy ways, with self-love, self-care, compassion and forgiveness. I hope you cherish your memories of Melissa and honor her by doing what she did best - care for each other.
Please let us know if and when there will be a service for Melissa. And please reach out if anyone want to talk or go for a walk.
In loving memory,
Lisa Orrett

Cannot explain how utterly sad I am. I am beyond sorrowful to everyone who knew her. That smile, laugh, energy and compassion is unbeatable. To me, she taught me so much about laughter, liveliness and forgiveness. Being with her and being happy was just so easy. I will miss you and love you always. Your KP family will be gathering soon (yes the get together you had planned is still happening). You have lived your life and completed your work, and you leave us in this life to carry it on.
To my friend, our last words to each other : " I love you".
