I have only just found out that Derek has passed away. I had not heard from him and was worried. He was so looking forward to coming to England this year. His Wife, Barbara, had been a best friend of mine for 78 years and Derek always kept me up-to-date with his family news. At least they will now be together.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DAD!!!!!!
I have finally found the strength and courage to say goodbye to you for now.
You were truly one of a kind and a man that always looked after everyone else first. You worked extremely hard to provide for Mum, Jo and myself and never complained. You rarely got mad but when you did, boy, we knew we were in trouble and it was usually cause of me.Lol.
Jo and my childhood is filled with lots of wonderful memories of the time we spent together and the laughs we had.
Your unwavering devotion and support to Mum when she was ill is beyond words but just shows the type of man you were. Finally you are both reunited again. Say hi to her for us and tell her we are both doing fine.
The biggest regret I have is that you will not be going on your dream trip with Jo, to see Uncle Geoff and family. You had so looked forward to it and finally you were doing something for yourself after being there for all of us, all these years.
The love you had for your Grandchildren (Austin, Devin, Aidan, Ryan and Rachael) and Great-Grandchildren (Nailah, Athen) was another example of the man you were. You will be deeply missed by them all.
If I can be half the man that you were I would be honoured.
June 7th, 2019 is the "Day the Music Died" but your legacy will live on in our hearts and souls.

Derek I will miss your friendly smile and your good humour. Every Thursday you brought your sheet with funny jokes and sometimes dirty jokes, but we all enjoyed. Dad.. thank you for everything you did for our family. You worked hard to provide for us even though it meant sacrificing precious time with us. But when you did have spare time, you made sure to play outdoors with us. I have many great memories of our time together when I was little and now that I have a family of my own. You called me everyday on my way home from work to keep me company and we talked about everything from sports to the trip we had planned in August to England. I am just so sorry you did not get the opportunity to go back home. I love and miss you so much it hurts but I know you are now reunited with mum. Although we did not know Mr. Thomas personally, his son is likely a close reflection of who he was. Mr. Thomas suffered the terrible loss of his lifetime partner at the end of last year...It is often witnessed that one cannot live without the other...may he now be reunited with his wife and may they enjoy eternal happiness and peace together.
Our sincerest condolences to his family. A death like this is a very difficult one as it leaves many unanswered questions and a definitive deep void.
May the happiness and memories you shared with him bring you some resemblance of fond solace in your hearts.
