She headed west, crossing the Elbe River over a British Army pontoon bridge, by special permission. At the end of the war, Joana was reunited with her husband Anthony, and immigrated to Canada, starting a new life in southern Alberta, in 1948. Joana took great pride in her sewing ability, and at one time, worked for a major U.S. department store, in the wedding gown alterations department. She was always also very fond of beautiful flowers and surrounded herself with them . Joana was predeceased by her husband Anthony at the age of 97 years, and by her parents in Lithuania. She will be sadly missed by her son Romi (late Sally nee McGregor) of Keswick, Ontario and her daughter Vida (Michael Grace) of Vancouver, B.C.
