Jill was an excellent nurse, coworker, mother and grandmother. She was devoted to everything she did . Whether it be tending to a patient, loving her family and even her knitting.
I had the pleasure to work along side her. She was so proud of her family and grandchildren. And I will never forget that she even attended my wedding. I am so saddened by her absence. She was taken way too soon. I will miss her beautiful eyes, her warm smile and her sense of humour.

Jill and I met in high school as "niners". Through the years our friendship grew and we shared so many wonderful times together. In the summer we would meet up and go for bike rides along Highland Creek. I got to be one of her bridesmaids and a few years later she was a bridesmaid for me. I remember during her first pregnancy Steve and I invited Jill and Rick to a screening of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the now gone Roxy theatre on the Danforth. This was back in the day when folks dressed up and it was very campy and there was a lot of smoke of various varieties wafting about the theatre. I thought poor Jill was going to either have an asthma attack or deliver the baby! But we all made it through the show and had a great laugh. We had long chats on the telephone about our busy lives and the raising of our families. When we got together we would laugh and talk for hours on end about nothing in particular over vast quantities of tea and just enjoyed each others company. We both decided later in life to take up piano lessons and were rather surprised that we both had the same idea around the same time. Once again we could compare notes on our progress.
Oh dear friend how much I will miss you. Your beautiful smile, your easy going manner, I was so lucky that day back in grade 9 to meet you. I will treasure all the memories of our friendship, thank-you for giving them to me.

What a wonderful and courageous woman, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Working with Jill over the years, doing night shifts on the in patient unit, then later at the centre, we developed a deep bond.
On our night shift, around 3am was tea time. After steeping it perfectly in our favourite pot Jill would be "mother". We would share stories about our life, our families, our nursing experiences....we would laugh, cry, rant and support each other. Happily the tea pot and this routine followed us to the centre, tetley only of course!
During difficult times she was a source of strength, wisdom and compassion for her colleagues, her patients, and for me.
I can't count the times we would look at each other and just know the other needed a hand with something. We shared that familiar "nursing sense" telling us of a pending change in a patients condition, or the need for a cup of tea and a chat.
The Nursing community has lost a strong, wise and compassionate professional. I miss my friend and colleague.

Rick and family, I would like to express my deepest condolences for the loss of dear Jill. I remember fondly being welcomed by Jill when I transferred from Sick Kids in July 2001. She welcomed me warmly and helped me adjust from pediatrics to Adult cancer care. What I will remember most about Jill is the way her eyes brightened as she talked about Rick and her children and the love and pride that was evident for her family. Later on this was seen again as she talked about her growing family with the addition of each grandchild. Jill's strong work ethic, courage, and dedicated professionalism will not be forgotten. Her work family will always remember the nurse, mother, wife, gardener and friend. Rest in peace.

Dear Rick and Family
My deepest sympathy to you and your family at this very difficult time.
I have known Jill for 20 years and have come to know the amazing woman I was proud to call my friend. She loved to share her stories of each and every one of you, how much she loved you, Rick and how proud she was of her children. I saw her excitement with the birth of each of her granchildren, and the Love she had for her family. Jill was so kind, thoughtful, generous, gentle , talented and most of all strong!!!! Jill was an amazing nurse, and a leader, a credit to her profession. I will miss her deeply. My heart goes out to all of you.
A Beautiful Soul is Never Forgotten
Love Diane Paton
